'Bally' in line for SA U-20s

South African Mapadima "Bally" Smart is continuing to do well in England where he is hoping to get a professional contract with First Division side Norwich City.

South African Mapadima "Bally" Smart is continuing to do well in England where he is hoping to get a professional contract with First Division side Norwich City.

Smart scored two second-half goals within three minutes in their 2-all draw against Southend in the Reserve League last Wednesday.

He was included in the South African Under-20 national team by coach Serame "Rhee" Letsoaka when they took part in a tournament in Germany in January.

Letsoaka is expected to recall the Polokwane-born Smart for the 2009 African Youth Championships qualifiers, scheduled to start in June.

"We are aware that Bally has been doing well in England; it's good for the youngster who is working hard to get a professional contract," said Letsoaka.

"We are busy with preparations for the qualifiers. The plan is to have three or four camps before starting with the tournament.

"It is not a good advert for South African football that we have not reached the African Youth Championships final since 1996." - Ramatsiyi Moholoa
