Big Gig at Pitori

Known mostly for its Jacaranda trees and jazz sessions, Pretoria will stamp its authority on youth culture when it hosts the Tshwane Freshers Welcome.

The event that has the youth and music lovers chomping at the beat takes place at the Pretoria Showgrounds on March 29, from 6pm until the following morning.

Set to up the pulse rate are hot and inspired artists such as the marvellous Chomee and Somizi, whose choreography never fails to leave bystanders sweating and out of breath, Kelly Khumalo who almost became one of the few married virgins and Danny K, the one mlungu who knows how to move crowds along the colour spectrum.

Others are 3Sum, the funky, elegant trio who have just broken homophobic tendencies among the straight-laced, and Mandoza, who seems to be temporarily attracting bad charma around himself but remains a sterling kwaito star.

Then there is MaChance, whose career soars mysteriously though he hardly hits the newspapers, Thabza le Madonga, Mgarimbe and Mogwanti wa Pitori.

As if that is not enough, there will be a host of DJs scratching their vinyl in their attempt to get the crowd to concentrate.

Silly Bean, Positive K, Nasty Nev, Patlama, Miggs, Squeezy Corry da Groove, Somebody, Gomez & Gomez, and Glen Lewis will keep party lovers asking for more. These are the club circuit king makers who fire up or kill a party with their fingertips.

For a fun-filled night against the backdrop of beautiful people and great tunes, buy tickets going at R100 at Shoprite. Walala wasala!
