Police ingenuity

Quick thinking by detectives from the South African Police Service led to them achieving a breakthrough at the weekend sooner than expected in their investigation of a major robbery.

Quick thinking by detectives from the South African Police Service led to them achieving a breakthrough at the weekend sooner than expected in their investigation of a major robbery.

Investigating a cash-in-transit robbery in which R2,3 million was stolen, the police promptly called in the Soweto dog unit to track down the missing cash. And no sooner than Sparky, the only police dog in the country trained to sniff out money, had been unleashed on the crime scene than the money was found hidden in a house in Soweto and four people were arrested.

It is such stories of police ingenuity that give hope to the crime-weary public and that assure us the police are determined to turn the tide against criminals.
