Mama Jackey denies all in dock
Ithuteng Trust director Jackey "Mama Jackey" Maarohanye, 49, Ronnie "Papa Action" Nyakale, 34, and Mpho Makhate, 21, put on brave faces as they took the stand under cross-examination at the Protea magistrate's court yesterday.
The three face seven charges ranging from assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm to kidnapping and indecent assault.
Dressed in a cream suit, Maarohanye put up a spirited performance as she gave reasons for her answers and referred prosecutor Marie Marriot to previous statements presented in court.
The three are accused of kidnapping and assaulting former Ithuteng Trust pupil Simphiwe Ncoguthu in February. They are alleged to have assaulted him after stripping him naked and parading him in the street.
The court decided last month to drop assault charges against Maarohanye. She is facing two charges of kidnapping. Defence lawyer Ike Motloung called his clients to the stand to testify again before Magistrate David Mhango. Yesterday the three denied knowledge of Ncoguthu's alleged kidnapping and assault.
"I do not know why Ncoguthu is implicating me in this. I do not know anything about the kidnapping, the assault or the street parade. I only read about it in the newspapers," said Maarohanye.
The case was postponed to next week for judgment.
