Lost harmony

Harmony Gold could lose about 600kg of gold in output at its Elandsrand mine after it launched investigations expected to last a month. Rescue workers last week saved all 3200 miners who were stuck in the mine for more than 24 hours. "Our production target is 600kg a month, so conversely that is what would be lost," the mine's manager Stan Bierschenk said. "We are busy with the shaft repairs and the investigation into why the pipe burst and broke off causing damage to the shaft, as well as investigating other things," he said. - Reuters
