Cops still trying to identify dead women
Mpumalanga police have again asked for help in identifying the body of a woman who they believe was raped before being murdered.
She was found on May 24 and there were two used condoms next to her body.
It is possible a serial killer may be on the loose in the area as condoms have been found near the bodies of two murdered women in the area this year.
Young boys herding cattle discovered the latest victim's body in bushes near Ludlow village in the Bushbuckridge area, nobody has claimed the body. The woman is believed to be between 17 and 21 years old.
Mhala police spokesman Robert Makhubele said yesterday: "The woman's body has been in the mortuary since it was found, and in a day or two it will be exactly three weeks since the gruesome discovery.
"We appeal to members of the community to help us identify the body," Makhubele said.
Police believe the woman might have been raped before being murdered, but Makhubele said a postmortem could only be carried out when her next of kin have been traced.
He said no arrests had been made.
The police have also asked the community for any information that might lead to the arrest of the killer or killers of the young woman.
It is the second time this year that a body, with condoms nearby, has been found in the Bushbuckridge area.
On March 9, a passer-by alerted the Acornhoek police to the body of an elderly woman in bushes next the Mooiset Trust.
In that incident too, the body was surrounded by a number of used and unused condoms.
Empty beer bottles were also found at the scene of the killing.
No one has been arrested in the Mooiset Trust case either and police are still urging community members to assist them with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
Police have not excluded possible links between the two cases.
