Advert negative and senseless

I was offended by a Sowetan advert, "I have a dream", flighted on KayaFM on April 25. It was tasteless and not a call for celebration.

I was surprised that it was a Sowetan advert - the newspaper that we so love and consider to be a nation builder. It is a shame that at a time when we South Africans need hope we are bombarded with negative messages.

I have been shot and my home has been robbed twice but that does not give me the right to send out negative messages about South Africa. You never hear Americans, black or white, sending out negative messages about their country despite the rampant problem of drugs and guns.

We listen to stations such as KayaFM and read publications such as Sowetan because we believe they carry the hopes of black South Africans.

Maybe Sowetan wanted to do a funny advert, but joking about rape, HIV-Aids, and crime is not funny and not original.

So, please people, think twice when making adverts.

I am offended by your advert.

The advert is so negative and I think Sowetan should pay for listeners to consult psychologists.
