Idle nurses still get pay

A municipality in Limpopo has spent almost R250000 on the salaries of three nurses who have not worked since May.

They have been getting their salaries for almost a year.

The nurses, who have been paid by the Greater BaPhalaborwa municipality, are Rosina Seopa, Christie Scholtz and Conny Gafane.

They stopped working after refusing to take orders from their superiors at a municipal clinic.

They allegedly refused to work for primary health care early last year when the state took over clinics from municipalities.

Acting municipal manager Anderson Mudunungu said: "We admit the matter has been dragging on for some time.

"But we had to let labour processes take their course." - Alex Matlala
