A widow was gunned down in her home on Monday - in front of her children - in an attack which has been linked to a family feud over a tractor.
Nokwazi Ngcobo, 54, of the farm Vaalbank, near Utrecht, the first wife of Ntozakhe Ngcobo, had been involved in a legal tussle with her brothers-in-law over a tractor given to her by her husband, who died last year. She took the matter to a court, which ruled in her favour.
The mother of seven survived a night attack on her home last year by a group that set her house alight while she and her children were asleep.
Her eldest son, who asked not to be named, said relatives in Nquthu had accused his mother of witchcraft.
"My mother was the one responsible for all the children in this home.
"It's very painful because she was murdered after she demanded her belongings.
"My father bought a tractor for his first wife [Nokwazi] and a truck for his second wife. But some family members wanted to rob her so she took the matter to court," he said.
He said his uncles had accused his mother of poisoning his father, who died fromrespiratory problems.
Nokwazi's children said they are now scared to sleep at night because they fear for their lives.
"We don't feel safe in our home.
"As the sun sets, we gather together to pray to see another day - or at least [have time] to bury our mother," her eldest son said.
The family has accused the police of deliberately dragging out their investigation of last year's attack.
Police spokesman Buhle Ngidi said a case of murder was being investigated.
