Are you beautiful or just average?

Whether it’s from fear of being labelled ‘pompous’ or just low self-esteem most women do not see themselves as beautiful.

According to a new study conducted by Dove, 96% of women around the world do not choose the word ‘beautiful’ to describe how they look although about 80% believe there is something beautiful about them.

The study was part of the company’s new campaign to help women reconsider the choice they make about their beauty and how that makes them feel.

The personal care brand also conducted tests  in public buildings located in Shanghai, San Francisco, London, Sao Paulo and Delhi where signs labelled ‘average’ and ‘beautiful’ were erected above doors and women's actions when faced with having to walk through one or the other were filmed.

The majority of participants chose to walk through the 'average' door, corresponding closely with the survey results.

“While we were filming, it was so clear that the women who chose to feel beautiful shined with a positive, empowered outlook,” said Paul Dektor, Film Director of Dove Choose Beautiful.

“We all have the personal and powerful ability to rise above others’ points of view, social media, and pop culture. I hope the film inspires women around the world to reconsider how they view their own beauty.”
