Alternative wedding ideas for the modern bride

Break from tradition and go for something different to make your special day more unique.

1. If you want to save some time and kill two birds with one stone combine your wedding and honeymoon together.

Go on a dream cruise, get the captain to perform the ceremony. The reception can be held in one of the on board restaurants. Ships offer plenty of entertainment so guests will surely not be bored. Depending on your budget, guests may have to pay their own fare but they'll be getting a holiday as well. Heads up, if you have a weak stomach remember to carry sea sickness tablets.

2. Looking for something quick and easy? Why not have your wedding at a botanical garden. Rather than a sit down reception, opt for a cocktail styled reception where waiters walk around serving bite sized eats and people are free to walk around and mingle.

3. If money's tight have a small church wedding and go for a picnic lunch afterwards. You could either provide the picnic baskets or request guests to provide their own.

4. For those of you who are more quiet and prefer something elegant but not over the top; opt for a 'high tea' reception. You could offer different flavoured teas, gourmet sandwiches and perhaps some desert.

5. Don't feel pressured into wearing a white wedding dress. It is your special day after all so if you've pictured yourself walking down the isle in a red, pink or silver dress, go for it. Just be careful not to choose a clashing colour for your bridesmaids dresses.

While the wedding day is important, remember that it's the years of love and happiness that count.
