Men are more romantic than women

When it comes to the truly deep and important definition of romance, men are the winners

WE HAVE read about women who commit suicide because some selfish guy had dumped them and run off with a younger woman.

We have heard about men abandoning pregnant women.

We also know of husbands who leave their wives for their wives' best friends. The list goes on and on.

But believe it or not, studies have found that men are more romantic than women.

At first glance, the evidence is pretty overwhelming that women are the romantics. Indeed, they are when it comes to saying, "I love you," on Valentine's Day and birthdays. But when it comes to the truly deep and important definition of romance, men are the winners, says Asiphe Ndlela, a relationship expert and psychologist.

Ndlela adds that men fall in love faster because they are so visual.

And she says research shows that men are more dependent on their women because they have fewer close friends and family ties.

"Research shows that men remarry. And more men kill themselves when a relationship ends.

"Men even alter their daily schedule more regularly, waiting for a woman to call. And research indicates that men are also more eager to marry and happier in their marriages," Ndlela says.

She says experts believe that women are somewhat more cautious about entering a relationship and sustaining it because it is the woman who will fall pregnant and do the bulk of the childcare.

A survey released by the dating Website Chemistry.com reveals that men drive the romance because romance leads to having sex and not getting yelled at.

The two factors are equal in value. At the beginning of a relationship sex is the prime motivator for men. As the relationship matures, sex takes a backseat to not getting yelled at.

This is because getting yelled at also means not having sex, so the man is punished twice, says the website.

Men are the ones who long to hear declarations of love and receive sentimental gifts.

Some interesting findings from askmen.com:

  • Who falls in love faster? Men!

In one study 700 young lovers were asked, "How early did you realise you were in love?" Men fell in love faster.

Before the fourth date, 20 percent of men had taken the tumble, whereas only 15 percent of the women realised Cupid had shot his arrow at them; 43 percent of the women still didn't know they were in love by the 20th, compared with only 30 percent of the men.

Women are more cautious about getting involved.

  • Who is more idealistic about love? Men!

Another study determined that men had a far more idealistic and less practical view of love. Men were not nearly as concerned with a woman's social position or how much money she made.

More men felt that as long as two people truly love each other, they should have no trouble getting along in marriage.

  • Who usually initiates the break-up? Women!

A group of Harvard scientists vigilantly followed the affairs of 231 couples. Of those who split up, it was usually the woman who suggested the separation. The men wanted to stick it out to the bitter end.

  • Who suffers more from a break-up? Men!

The men felt lonelier, more depressed, unloved, and least free after a split. They reported that they found it extremely hard to accept that they were no longer loved and that she had really gone.

What disturbed them most was that they felt there was nothing they could do about it. They were plagued with the hope that if only they had said the right thing. done the right thing.

In fact, three times as many men commit suicide after a disastrous love affair as women do.

  • Who loves their lovers more? Men!

Men love their lovers more in relation to others in their life. Several researchers at Yale University polled male and female participants from age 18 to 70 and asked, "Who do you like, and who do you love, most in your life?"

The choices were lover (or spouse), best friend, parents and siblings.

Men loved and liked their lovers more than their best friend. With women the rankings were about equal.

Many women liked their best friends more than their lovers.
