Soweto's top women to be honoured

SISTERS are truly doing it for themselves and the Businesswomen's Association in Soweto has made it their business to honour them through their annual Regional Business Achievers Awards.

This week the group announced the names of 10 women entrepreneurs from Soweto who made it to the finals of this prestigious event.

The winner will be announced on July 29 at a function in Johannesburg.

Finalists in the start-up category are Susan Lokwe, Thandiwe Nyoni and Portia Pilane. From the professional category the names are optometrists Ndifelani Mphugana and Bignocia Masinge.

In the entrepreneur category the finalists are Alina Nkosi-Mlotshwa, owner of the Chez Alina Restaurant & Tourism; Matshidisho Paulina Rammabi, of the Little Angels Day Care and Pre-School; and Kediagetse Mosimane, owner of Sister Bucks Boutique. Pastor Busisiwe Luthuli and Sibongile Mkhwanazi are finalists in the Social Category.

The awards, which were launched in 2001, seek to honour women in business and acknowledge their contribution to the local economy.

BWA Soweto branch coordinator Mpho Charles says: "The achievers are recognised for their business skills and for the remarkable success they have achieved."

Charles says the awards have boosted the participants' confidence and elevated their businesses to another level. "They have inspired participants to make a success of their businesses and are eager to share their stories with others as a motivation."
