Local rapper Cassper Nyovest who’s currently blazing a trail in the country’s hip hop scene is making sure he doesn't stay local.

He’s won national and been nominated for intercontinental awards, he has made music with rappers such as D’banj and Talib Kwali but that is not enough for the Mafikeng born rapper.

Nyovest whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo has also taken on the task of filling up the 20 000 seater TicketPro Dome. The last time we checked he was making great headway in that direction. He’s also dating one of the most loved personalities in South Africa, Boitumelo Thulo, how good can it get for one guy?

But before all of this Nyovest had to work hard to get where he is and it doest seem like he’s stopping.

Nyovest takes SowetanLIVE and our readers back to where he started.

In the video below Nyovest talks about how he discovered who he was in high school and he realised he wasn’t made for school.

He dropped out of school after repeating grade 10. He also talks about how he ran away from his home in Mafikeng to Potchefstroom.

Nyovest states that he told his parents he didn’t want to attend school anymore.

“I told my parents I didn’t fail because I was stupid, I failed because I don’t want to do this anymore”
