Moshito conference to explore the business of music

Local creative economy will come under scrutiny this week when South Africa's premier music conference and exhibition, Moshito, will be held in Johannesburg.

The event, supported by department of arts and culture, has attracted participants from across the world, including, emerging and established artists who will be representing different styles and genres.

Since its inception a decade ago, industry professionals from across South Africa, Africa and the international music business spectrum gather in Johannesburg to network, exchange ideas and opinions, on the ever growing creative economy sector.

The event also serves as platform for ordinary people to understand music as business.

Moshito chairperson Mr Sipho Sithole explained that this year's conference will neither be limited nor confined only to discussions on music discourse but will provide platform to provide more creative opportunities  and to sustain a platform for more musicians and artists to showcase their talent in front of a diverse audience, talent scouts, and local and international music promoters.

The 12th annual Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition will take place on the 10-12 September 2015 - Under the theme ‘From Kwela to Hop: the Great South Africa Song Book’.

Carrying this year’s Moshito theme as ambassadors are two pioneers – Legendary Lemmy ‘Special’ Mabaso and Emile YX - of the Cape Town hip-hop outfit Black Noise.

The event kicks off with an Opening concert on Wednesday the 9th September at SABC M1 studio, where the likes of Maru Tarang (India) feat. Indwe (South Africa), Maya Kamaty, Tribute Birdie Mboweni and Judith Sephuma resonate indigenous sounds combined with the true essence of Africa.
