THEY have been featured in glossy magazines and, as actors, they have become part of many South African TV lounges.

Their current appearance in M-Net's latest hit soapie The Wild seems set to put Connie and Shona Ferguson's acting careers on an international footing.

Earlier this year, the soapie won four categories in the South African Film and Television Awards.

The production has now been nominated for a Rockie Award at the forthcoming 2012 Banff World Television Festival in Canada.

The winners will be announced during the Banff World Media Festival over four days from June 10.

The Wild is one of six nominated programmes in the Soaps and Telenovel category.

"Its great," Shona said. "The Wild is only just over a year old and the fact that it's getting international recognition is a big nod for the production and industry as a whole in South Africa.

"What M-Net did with this production is one good example. They took on a very ambitious project and backed it 100% and now the show is making major waves in the industry."

The Fergusons confess that they have always wanted to work together in the same production.

"The Wild has given us that opportunity. She is an amazing actress and I enjoy our scenes together. It's just effortless with her," Shona declared.

M-Net's spokesman Lani Lombard said receiving international recognition for The Wild was a coup for local television-making.

"The Wild is putting us on the international television map and we are proud that our series - with its breathtaking African scenery, compelling stories, brilliant actors and high production value - has been selected to compete against top-notch programmes made by the best in the world.

"Being nominated for this international soapie award is a feather in the cap for the passionate and dedicated team involved in the production," Lombard said.
