Muso Zahara mesmerises Sowetans

AFRO-JAZZ and soul singer Zahara mesmerised an appreciative audience for 55 minutes yesterday during the Siyabangena Soweto Concert at Elkah Stadium in Rockville.

From the opening notes of her song Usana Lwam, Zahara proved that her voice is as powerful now as it ever was.

Accompanied by a seven-piece band, she followed her opening song with I Know Where I Am Going and Umthwalo.

Zahara proved beyond doubt that she's a singer whose music defies categorisation.

She also did songs by the late Brenda Fassie and Senegalese superstar Youssou N'Dour. She closed her set with her popular song Loliwe and the whole stadium went crazy.

Securex Siyabangena Concerts started on February 25 and ended yesterday. The concerts were staged with the aim of bringing Securex anti-bacteria soap to the people.

Boniswa Tabule of Kliptown walked away with a Nissan Micra. "I am so excited. This is the first time I won something," Tabule said.
