Durban-born star is making waves in the music industry

NTOKOZO Zakwe, a Kasi rapper, has made a mark in South Africa's hip-hop industry with his bold voice and heavy punch lines of township stories

Born, bred and raised in KwaMashu, Durban, this 24-year-old has a very promising career ahead of him.

Working hard and pushing his two singles entitled Bathi Ng'yachoma and Benzani has assured Zakwe true celebrity status.

The ever-humble wordsmith has dominated the radio countdowns and Top 20 album sales charts.

His album has sold more than 10000 copies within three months of its release.

Zakwe's signature is his true sense of originality.

He embraces his authenticity by writing and rapping in isiZulu.

"If I try to conform, dress and be how many hip-hop artist are, I would not sell [records]."

Seen as one of the most sought-after performing artists in the country in just over three months since the release of his debut album, Zakwe has even bigger dreams to take over the industry.

He co-owns a production company and has worked with the likes of Amu, The Soil, Dunkan and many other sought-after music producers and artists.

When asked who he would like to work with in the future, he said: "I will work with anyone.

"Right now I am about to work on a track with [rapper] PRO".

Under Native Rhythms and Sony Music, Zakwe's self-titled debut album is making waves and dominating the airwaves throughout the country.

He spent the past weekend performing at ChafPozi in Orlando, Soweto and signing autographs at The Zone in Rosebank as part of his "Occupy Joburg" tour.

His fans should look forward to his music videos for the two singles, Benzani and Scatterlings, which he will be shooting in Johannesburg soon.
