HERBERT Saffir, a US engineer, is the Saffir behind the Saffir-Simpson hurricane intensity scale. The scale ranges from 1 to 5, with 1 causing minimal damage and 5 being catastrophic.

1: wind speed of 120 to 153kmh - minimal damage

2: wind speed of 154 to 177kmh - moderate damage

3: wind speed of 178 to 209kmh - extensive damage

4: wind speed of 210 to 249kmh - extreme damage
