Penny sparks the airwaves

LIMPOPO-BASED radio station Thobela FM has reshuffled its programme line-up again in a bid to increase its listeners.

In doing so the station has managed to land one of its biggest catches, Penny Lebyane.

The former Metro FM DJ is joining the Sepedi station in what is seen as a revival of her radio broadcasting career.

Lebyane, who left Metro FM last year, starts her new job on August 1. The Motswako presenter hosts Madiboga a Gauta on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 1pm.

The show will focus on South African showbiz stars and business leaders and is aimed at inspiring the youth to participate in securing their future.

Lebyane has been in radio broadcasting since 1997 when she joined the Voice of Soweto which is now known as Jozi FM.

The other big change is the return of Thamagana Maxwell Mojapelo, popularly known as Max the Mixerboy. He will host Di Sa Fisha from 12 to 2pm on weekdays.

Mojapelo is a versatile talent, having presented a wide range of programmes, including the National Top 30, jazz, reggae and gospel and pop shows.

He left the SABC in 2002 to pursue personal interests after serving as Thobela FM station manager for five years.

Thobela FM station manager Leuba Ramakgolo said: "The introduction of the two popular presenters is in line with a need to drive Popular PBS Programming approach of infotainment and edutainment.

"We are looking forward to interactive radio that will cement our mark as the number one radio station of choice in Limpopo and a key role player in the country's radio industry."
