Tanz Café is tops for music, food and vibe

THE old adage that pictures don't lie rang true during a recent visit to the Tanz Café in Fourways

Located in the Buzz Shopping Centre along Witkoppen Road, it is quite easy to find as you negotiate your way looking for a parking spot outside this vibrant place.

Once you are inside - and if you happen to be there when the bar is not swarming with patrons - take some time to look at the pictures on the wall.

You will realise how much you have missed because the pictures reflect the ball people have in this place.

On entry you immediately feel the euphoric atmosphere that has engulfed this eatery, which is fast becoming an entertainment mecca in the leafy suburb.

Apart from the place being used regularly to host artists launching new albums with live performances, they also have weekly comedy nights.

Recently new kids on the block Son of a 1000 blew everyone away when they launched their album here. And what a performance the band gave for the appreciative crowd.

Reigning hip-hop champions Teargas recorded their live DVD here, also to loud applause from the audience.

It is understandable that this place is fast becoming a favourite hang-out for many people.

Not only for revellers from the surrounding areas but also visitors from as far afield as Pretoria.

It's not only the music by new artists but also the house DJs who don't disappoint every time they spin their disks.

So after you have been fed a dose of the launching artist and have not danced enough you surely prepare to take off your shoes and boogie.

Buying a beer can be a bit of a mission at times because the bar tends to get crowded, but a section that is often reserved for VIP delegates during launches is a perfect place to lay back.

And if you are one of those people who light up a cancer stick every 10 minutes the smoking area offers a breathtaking view of part of Fourways at night.

It is pretty tempting, especially in summer.

Grant van Zyl, the manager, tells me that in winter he fires up braziers to keep customers warm while they puff away.

He says that besides the enticing musical entertainment on offer, Tanz Café is a reputable eatery that serves sumptuous meals during the day and other nights when there are no functions.

I will certainly take up the offer of a supper one night just to experience the other side of this very vibrant establishment.
