Duo have magic touch

IT started like a game children play so well, polishing chairs with their bums as they go without even realising the labour of naughtiness they repeatedly perform so effortlessly.

However, after 13 weeks of Rize Mzansi when Puseletso Modimogale and Katlego Assis bagged the coveted R1million, it ceased to be a kiddies' game.

Like their counterparts, Modimogale and Assis had seen the competition on SABC1 television when they decided to throw caution to the wind and take their chances. The format involved 13 businesses that competed in groups of three.

Every time one was eliminated, their seat would be taken by the next group.

However, when they took a million home, it became a completely new ball game.

"We started out on June 1 and went on until October 5 with 13 companies who were gradually whittled down and falling by the wayside until we were the last two women standing. It has been a roller-coaster emotion all the way, with us not knowing whether we would be coming back to the hot seats," one of the comeback kids explains.

"Looking back I can't believe just how stressed we were. Every week there was a rotation of contestants with the losing party leaving while the winners would go into the next week against the new contestant.

"We were fortunate to come back again and again until the end when we won.

The two visionaries entered their Therapeutic Touch Studio, which provides wellness services, stress and relaxation services, as well as beauty therapy and advice on wellness. "It's based at Groenkloof, while others are mobile and go to corporates within Gauteng," she says of the company that has existed since 2002.

"As part of my expansion programme, I was fortunate to bring on board my fellow churchgoer Katlego Assis as my business partner last December. Our business has two facets to it, the therapeutic salon, where individuals come in for therapeutic treatments. That's where Katlego's magic touch works wonders on our clients.

"The other side is corporate wellness, which is my forte. I basically provide massage therapy and wellness workshops, as well as collaborate with other wellness service providers to offer a comprehensive mind, body and soul package.

For example [we provide] services such as psychology, nutrition, life coaching and physical fitness," she says. "Salon 905 is a new buzzword that enjoys the patronage of lots of white clients. Our people are beginning to appreciate the services. It's not about money but mindset change."

She says they couldn't have a chosen a better time for their business. More and more corporates are investing in their employees' wellness, while the government is encouraging companies to invest in workers.

"Happy employees produce the best results. They learn to look after themselves at work and adopt it as a lifestyle."

Modimogale, who has a BTech degree, says: "Everything we have achieved has not been possible because of our intelligence but by the grace of God."
