What shape are rain drops?

Most people think rain drops are shaped like tear drops, but they are, in fact, round.

This was discovered by William Watts at the end of the 1700s.

He used his knowledge to great success. He dropped small amounts of molten lead from the top of a tall tower.

The lead landed in a big barrel of cold water.

When the lead landed in the water, perfectly round lead balls were made, which made ideal bullets.

Before this, bullets had been made by hand and were thus not very accurate.
