Meyiwa to captain Bafana Bafana

Orlando Pirates' goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa will captain Bafana Bafana for the first time.

South Africa take on Sudan in their opening 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Khartoum.

Shakes Mashaba made the announcement late Thursday afternoon, before the team departed for the first and only training session ahead of Friday's group A encounter.

Meyiwa was preferred ahead of Anele Ngcongca, who has worn the captain's armband in previous matches.

First-choice goalkeeper and captain Itumeleng Khune was ruled out of the clash with Sudan due to injury and will also miss next week's second qualifier against Nigeria in Cape Town.
