Urban Warriors' storm far from over

THEY barely escaped relegation last season, but Ajax Cape Town might not be so fortunate this time round.

According to former Ajax boss John Comitis, it is remarkable that the team expect results, but let go "22 goals" in Mabhuti Khenyeza, Khama Billiat and Abia Nale. "The team should have worked around the clock to keep the trio. Muhsin (Ertugral) cannot be entirely blamed for the situation. He was promised those transfers and they never happened."

But it is not only that coach Ertugral is losing matches, it's the compelling picture of the losses that speaks of the weakness in the team.

Boardroom politics, which led to Comitis's exit from the club, cannot be overlooked as the root cause of the calamities bedevelling the club.

"The club is cash flush. There was no reason to let Billiat go," he said.

The Urban Warriors are yet to win a match this season, having drawn twice and lost three so far in the league. They were knocked out of the Telkom Knockout Challenge last week.

It could be a matter of when and not if Ertugral will vacate the hot seat.
