Rhulani Manzini’s second half hat-track saw Chippa United beat Supersport United 3-0 in a crucial Premier Soccer League fixture at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Port Elizabeth based soccer side fought tooth and nail to get the much needed three points from United in an attempt to save their PSL status.
Coach Dan Malesela’s return to the club seems to have made an impression on the players as they played with their heart on the sleeves last night.
Wednesday’s victory was Chippa’s second win this year after having gone 12 matches without success.
As the league draws to the end the win will now easy off some pressure on Malesela’s troops, as it will put them in a better position on the log.
It was the visitors who took the game to the host’s at the start of the first half.
Within 14 minutes into the game Mandla Masango was already searching for that early goal for Matsatsantsa, but his shot was denied by Chippa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.
The striker was a wake up call for the Chilli Boys who also came to the party.
Chippa had a number of goal scoring opportunities but it looked as if their players were scared to take responsibility in front of goals passing the ball to someone else.
Menzi Masuku received a pass from Katlego Mashego in an attempt to put the host’s in the lead, but his strike hit the left side of the net.
Chippa player Zephania Mbokoma found the back off the net in the 39th min but the goal was ruled out by referee Phelelani Mdaba.
Malesela’s troops continued creating chances but failed to put the ball inside the net.
First half ended goalless.
The second half saw Manzini score three gaols.
The first goal came in the 69th min after Masuku was fouled inside the box by Keegan Ritshie, who later was handed his second yellow card by the referee.
Top Chippa striker Manzini took the penalty to put Chippa in the lead.
Minutes later his doubled the score line for his team and his third goal came during the dying minutes if the game.
