Temba Bavuma has the support of the whole SA national cricket team.

Batsman JP Duminy offered his support to his struggling teammate and said Bavuma - who has only scored 21 runs in his five innings in this current series against Sri Lanka - knows that all his teammates are behind him.

Bavuma is on a run of two successive ducks and pressure is mounting on him with AB de Villiers expected to be available for South Africa’s next Test series against New Zealand away from home in March.

“My advice to him is just to keep it simple‚" Duminy said at the close of play at the Wanderers on Friday.

"He knows that his teammates back him‚ a big score is certainly around the corner and it’s only a matter of time before things turn around.

"There is a time in everyone’s career where you go through dips and we certainly back him because he is a great player and he has shown that many times in the past.”

Reflecting on his knock of 155 where he scored his 6th Test hundred and second score of 155 plus on the opening day on Thursday‚ Duminy said it felt good and it was also a relief.

“It definitely was a good day for me‚ it has been a series where I felt good and I have backed that up with consistent scores.

"I was hungry to put up a big performance and there was relief on my face when I got that century. Throughout the season my attitude has always been to be as positive as possible in my body language‚ approach and mindset and fortunately the last couple of months have been successful for me.

"I always try to score as best as I can and not just to survive‚ especially on a wicket like this where a lot of balls will beat the bat. My mindset was to try and capitalize when there are runs on offer and that has helped me to get through the innings."

Duminy also admitted that he was not sure of his position in the team‚ considering the eminent return of De Villiers‚ a few months ago when he was going through a dry spell.

“I won’t say I didn’t think of AB (De Villiers) coming back and where I would fit in and if my spot was in danger.

"Coming into this Test my main focus was to do well for the team. We have a big opportunity to go 3-0 up and I think the last time we did that was in 2003.”

He also believes that he can cement his spot on number four where he has batted for many years as a youngster at the Cobras.

“For me it comes down to opportunities‚ I have always regarded myself as a top order batter‚ I batted at four for the Cobras for many years.

"I remember getting an opportunity to bat at number four in Wellington when Jacques Kallis was injured and did very well.

"I have always enjoyed batting at number four‚ the responsibility that comes with it and it also means you have opportunities to score big runs.

"Fortunately now I had the opportunity at number four in the last few months and we will see how to goes in the future‚” he said adding that their mission is to win the match and complete a series whitewash over the Sri Lankans.” - TMG Digital.
