Former Springbok rugby player Joost van der Westhuizen‚ on Wednesday‚ won his court battle against the Attorney’s Fidelity Fund‚ who were ordered to pay him R385 000 after his money was misappropriated by his late attorney.
This comes after Joost‚ who suffers from the incurable Motor Neuron Disease in 2011‚ dragged the fund to court after his claim for the money embezzled by his late attorney Robert Klinkenberg was declined in May this year.
According to Jacaranda FM‚ Joost’s current attorney Ferdie Hartzenberg claimed that he urgently needed the money to live through his condition from day-to-day.
“They should reimburse him the full amount that was paid into the trust account of Klinkenberg Attorneys‚” he was quoted as saying.
Soon after Judge Lester Adams ruled that the Attorney’s Fidelity Fund should reimburse Joost‚ Ferdie revealed in a Jacaranda FM report that the former rugby player — who was not present in court — met the ruling with excitement.
“I’ve just spoken to Mr Van der Westhuizen and he’s glad that the application is over and we are relieved that we have been successful with the application‚” he said.
