Imports heading home

A total of 29 PSL players from 14 different countries are heading off on World Cup duty this weekend - this is excluding the Bafana Bafana contingent.

The growing multi-national look of the PSL is amplified by players from Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Namibia, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, setting out on the Road to Russia.

Qualifiers start tomorrow, with Elias Pelembe of Bidwest Wits to captain Mozambique against Gabon, while Kennedy Mweene and top PSL scorer Collins Mbesuma from Mpumalanga Black Aces feature for Zambia away against Sudan.

On Thursday, there will be the only clash between PSL teammates as Uganda have recalled Ivan Bukenya for the match against Togo, where former Free State Stars coach Tom Saintfiet is expected to start with Camaldine Abraw of Kaizer Chiefs.

Former teammates Denis Onyango and Dove Wome, who has since left Sundowns for SuperSport, are also due to line up against each other in Lome on Thursday.
