No pressure on me, says Igesund

SuperSport United coach Gordon Igesund insists he is under no pressure to win the remaining two trophies on offer this season despite working for a chairman who expects his coaches to deliver or make way for someone else who can do the job.

Knocked out of the Telkom Knockout by Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in Atteridgeville on Saturday, SuperSport need to turn their season around and challenge for the Absa Premiership or Nedbank Cup.

Chairman Khulu Sibiya opened up his chequebook to get the players Igesund requested for the new season, but it has not quite worked out the way the multiples league winning coach had hoped, with disappointments in two knockout competitions already.

"I don't think I am under pressure to win one of them. We are going to try, we are going to do our best. I think the most important thing now is for us to continue with the league form we had in our last four games, being unbeaten.

"If we can win two or three games in a row, I am sure we can, then we can put ourselves in a position in the top four or top five. We are nine points off the team at the top. It's still very early in the season. A team can lose seven matches in a season and still win the championship. The morale is not low. We'll be OK."

With the Fifa week coming up, Igesund will be hoping that he holds on to his job.

Matsatsantsa will face Ajax Cape Town in the league in a fortnight.
