ANELE Ngcongca's Genk have won their final pre-season friendly match 1-0 against French Ligue 1 side Nantes as they head into this weekend's start of the new Belgian league season.

It was a second clean-sheet in a row for the side after they defeated English Championship outfit Charlton Athletic as well last week, and it now appears all is forgiven after Ngcongca's personal problems that saw him miss training 10 days ago.

Genk begin their league season with a home match against OH Leuven on Saturday in what they hope will be a vastly improved campaign than the last when they finished seventh.

Ngcongca was reportedly upset by a battle to obtain visas to bring his wife and child to Belgium, which led him to consider his future at the club. It was a disappointing start to the new league season in Denmark for Lebogang Phiri and his Brondby side as they lost 2-1 away at Aarhus.

Phiri has started all four games for his side so far this season, and now faces another clash on Thursday in European competition.

Brondby host Bulgarian side Beroe, who they beat 1-0 away last week.

Should Brondby complete the job as expected, they will face the winner of the tie between Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok and Cypriot outfit Omonia, which is locked at 0-0 with the home leg to come for the latter. Either of those teams look beatable for the Danes.

There was no Joel Untersee for Swiss league side Vaduz as they lost 2-0 at champions Basel in their opening game of the campaign. The South African-born fullback, who recently signed a one-year extension of his loan deal from Italian Serie A giants Juventus, has missed all of pre-season through injury.

Also sidelined is South African striker Tiyi Shipalane, who plays for Carolina Railhawks in the US second-tier. He missed his side's 3-2 win over San Antonio after limping out of the previous game.
