Moroka Swallows CEO Leon Prins has appointed Patrick Mabedi as their new caretaker coach following the departure of Fani Madida on Monday.

Relegation favourites Swallows parted ways with Fani Madida last night, with assistant coach Patrick Mabedi confirmed as caretaker manager for tomorrow's Absa Premiership clash with log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Prins said on the club's website: "We wish to confirm that after an amicable meeting last night between myself and Fani Madida, Fani decided to step aside in the best interests of the team. The decision was taken because although a lot of hard work and effort and very good coaching has taken place since he took over, luck and results were just not going our way and something had to give. That is why Fani stepped aside.

"I'd like to thank Fani for his contribution to the club and he leaves the team in good condition and very fit. A lot of effort has gone into improving the side's skill levels and fitness levels, and intensity levels have been very high with him in charge. He is a very talented coach.

"I wish him all the best and I thank him for the way he has conducted himself. He is a gentleman and has a bright future as a coach.

"Patrick Mabedi will be in caretaker charge of the side for tomorrow night's game against Kaizer Chiefs."
