Kosta Papic's Polokwane City create a new club record

SATURDAY'S late 2-1 victory over Moroka Swallows created a new club record for Polokwane City, who are very much on the rise under Kosta Papic this season.

The victory was the eighth for the club in the league campaign from 19 matches - surpassing the seven they managed last season as they flirted with relegation.

Papic's team are now also the leading scorers in the Premier Soccer League, having netted two more than leaders Kaizer Chiefs from the same number of games.

The club has also set a number of new benchmarks in this campaign to confirm their growing stature. Star striker Puleng Tlolane has beaten his own club record with eight league goals this season, though whether they can hold on to him beyond this campaign remains to be seen.

The team's away form has been much improved - they already have 14 points on the road this season, which beats the seven they managed through the entire campaign in 2013-2014 season and the nine they got in 2008-2009.

City are also well on course to smash their record of 31 goals in a single campaign achieved last year. The flip side to all these strong numbers is that the team has the worst defensive record of any side this season.

They have kept just two clean-sheets in their 19 games, ironically against Chiefs and Bidvest Wits, and look a side likely to give up a fair few more goals before the end of the campaign.

On Saturday, Free State Stars drew 1-1 against University of Pretoria and Chippa United also drew 1-1 against Maritzburg United.
