POLOKWANE City coach Kosta Papic has been around long enough to know that it could all go wrong.

POLOKWANE City coach Kosta Papic has been around long enough to know that it could all go wrong.

City may be in sixth place after 17 Absa Premiership matches, but Papic refused to get comfortable. Finishing in the top eight is a possibility, but Papic will just be happy to survive and do so without the stress of play-offs, which was the case for the Polokwane side last term with former coach Boebie Solomons.

"I had an agreement with the chairman (Johnny Mogaladi). We agreed that we are going to make sure that we do not get relegated," said Papic, who was named coach of the month for November and December yesterday.

"We need about seven or nine points to be safe. If we finish higher than we are right now, then it will be a bonus," the coach added ahead of tomorrow's league clash with Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City (7.30pm).

City, who won the Q-Innovation's quarter two, have got the worst defensive record in the league, with 32 goals conceded.

However, Papic is not concerned. "It's simple. Try score one more goal than your opponents. People go buy tickets, and if they are not satisfied, they won't come back."

Player-of-the-month Thabo Mnyamane, meanwhile, expressed his delight after signing a new two-year contract with University of Pretoria despite interest from Pirates. Mnyamane will not be available to play against Chippa United today (7.30pm) after getting a red card in the last league match against Bidvest Wits.
