Ex-national team stars Sibusiso Zuma and Delron Buckley may be heading swiftly towards 40, but both maintain they still have the physical attributes to play on in the PSL.
Zuma was last on trial with Mpumalanga Black Aces and has expressed his desire to remain in Gauteng to be close to his family and business interests.
Innocent Mdledle is another former international on the hunt for a new team after the left back departed Aces at the end of last season.
Stanley Kgatla remains the player with the most top-flight appearances for Platinum Stars with almost 230 but after an ill-fated move to AmaZayoni at the start of last season, he is a free agent again.
Still only 31, he had looked poised to join Polokwane City ahead of this season but that deal never materialised.
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars midfielder Mthokozisi Yende is another who has not been able to find a new team since he left Ea Lla Koto, and the 30-year-old remains in limbo.
As do midfielders Njabulo Manqana, Mfundo Shumana and Brent Carelse - all were at once hot property in the PSL but are now unable to find suitable employers.
The same goes for former Bidvest Wits defender Thomas Sweswe, who made his name at Chiefs but has now not played in the PSL for 18 months after he was not registered by the Clever Boys last season.
Other defenders on the hunt for clubs include Sipho Mngomezulu, Keamogetse Wolff, Warren Bishop and Peter Petersen.
One player who has said he is retiring at the age of 25 but could possibly be coaxed to play on is winger Mkhanyiseli Siwahla.
But he was unceremoniously dumped by both Aces and Chippa United last season.
