Chiefs 'aren't predictable'

KAIZER Chiefs talisman Siphiwe Tshabalala has rebuffed suggestions that the Glamour Boys have become predictable this season.

Instead, the midfielder believes the Absa Premiership defending champions have rather had an average start, which they seem to have finally put behind them following three consecutive league wins last month.

"I think people expected us to start the season the same way we did last year. We are not predictable, the problem is that the start we had was not good. It was not bad, but it was pretty average for Chiefs," said Tshabalala of the club's four points from a possible nine in the opening month of the campaign in August.

"And we all know that average is not good enough for Chiefs. We are finding our feet now, having won three games in a row and we look forward to winning more."

Tshabalala said if there were any lessons he had picked up from the slow start to this campaign, it was to avoid complacency.

Chiefs are second on the log standings after 11 matches, two points adrift of Mamelodi Sundowns.

"We can not rest on our laurels. A new season always means a new challenge, and because we know now the feeling of being champions, we want it again. We want to win the league again. But it doesn't come easy.

"I think we have to put in extra effort and maintain our consistency," said Tshabalala.

Amakhosi's next clash will now be against University of Pretoria on Monday.

However, that still has not stopped Tshabalala from praising the Brazilians, who are top the log thanks to a better start to the season.

"They will keep us on our toes this season," he said. "They have a top coach in Pitso Mosimane, one of the best in the country, and having worked with him [at Bafana], I know him.

"They have got good players and on top of playing well, they have depth in the team. Sundowns are without a doubt title contenders."

Following the AmaTuks match at FNB Stadium, Chiefs will then travel to Durban to take on Lamontville Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on December 19.

They will remain in KwaZulu-Natal where they end off the year with a clash against AmaZulu three days later.
