NEW Polokwane City head coach Boebie Solomons lauded his rookie outfit after the Limpopo club stood firm at the back to clinch a 1-0 Premiership victory over Mamelodi Sundowns at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

"Talent doesn't win games. You've got to be organised, show commitment and fight for everything," he said.

City defender Thapelo Tshilo, the man of the match, said they had stuck to their game plan by "shutting out" the visiting team's attack.

"We know they're a good side and they keep the ball, so we sat back and waited to counter-attack."

Frustrated Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admitted his side needed to find a way to break through solid defensive walls erected by opposition teams.

"In all the games we play there's a bus parked," he said. "We have to try and move the bus, but it has got no driver and the keys are lost."

The giant-slaying hosts sat back for most of the Premiership clash, and were fortunate to take the lead when Tebogo Langerman scored an own goal in the second half.

High-flying Sundowns were handed their first defeat of the season by the Premiership newcomers.

l It was also a good weekend for another Premiership upstart, Mpumalanga Black Aces, who broke a five-match winless drought with a 1-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows in Nelspruit on Saturday.

Zamuxolo Ngalo scored the only goal of the encounter after latching on to a pass from Clifford Mulenga.

l AmaTuks shared the spoils with Ajax Cape Town after playing to a goalless draw at Tuks Stadium.

l Goals by Siyabonga Nomvethe and Lerato Chabangu secured Moroka Swallows 2-0 over Platinum Stars at a rain-drenched Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night.
