Khenyeza case date is set

MABHUTI Khenyeza's arbitration case has been set down to be completed before next Tuesday, the South African Football Association has said.

An arbitrator is set to be appointed and the case placed before him in the next days.

The Premier Soccer League have taken to arbitration the decision of the appeal board of Safa to overturn the 12-month ban handed the fiery forward for spitting at a match official.

Khenyeza was found guilty by the league's disciplinary committee in June of "misbehaviour and unsporting behaviour" for having spat at and verbally insulting linesman Zakhele Siwela after he was sent off in a game against Mamelodi Sundowns in April.

The decision by the PSL came after several postponements of his hearing, which conveniently allowed Khenyeza to play for Ajax in vital matches near the end of the season as Ajax successfully avoided relegation.

Ajax did not renew Khenyeza's contract after he was banned but newly promoted Mpumalanga Black Aces took him on and helped finance his appeal to Safa, which changed the punishment after reviewing the case.

Safa's appeal board also found Khenyeza guilty but instead of a 12-month ban changed his punishment to an effective R25000 fine.

But the PSL are unhappy with that and have taken the decision to arbitration.
