HELSINGBORG club director Paul Myllenberg has confirmed that the club has received interest in Bafana Bafana star May Mahlangu, but says it is far from a foregone conclusion that the midfielder will leave Sweden this month.

Myllenberg has confirmed that Turkish side Genclerbirligi and French Ligue 1 outfit Valenciennes have made contact over Mahlangu's availability for a move, but says no negotiations have started yet.

Mahlangu has a contract with Helsingborg until the end of the year, when he would be able to leave for free, but the club could hold onto him until the next transfer window. By then they will know if they are able to mount a title challenge in Sweden.

"We are in a situation where there is some interest, but we have yet to sit down and discuss the issue with the clubs. There have been no negotiations yet," Myllenberg said.

"We'll see where things end up. There is also the possibility that he will play out his contract with us. There are many parties involved before a deal can be made, the other clubs, the player himself and agents. Everybody must agree."

Times Media understands that the interest is strongest from Genclerbirligi, who are "100% committed" to signing the Bafana star. The club is a mid-table team in Turkey, whose glory days were during the 1940s. Their only two Turkish league titles came in that decade.

Valenciennes are chasing European qualification in Ligue 1 this season and are celebrating their centenary this year. They have never won a major trophy in their history.

Reports last week also suggested that Dutch side Heerenveen were interested in signing Mahlangu.
