TOKELO Rantie arrived in Sweden yesterday and was hurried off to negotiate a possible deal with top club Malmo.
The newly capped Bafana Bafana striker will not be returning to Orlando Pirates after they baulked at the R2m price tag on the 21-year-old's head, his agents said.
The fast-paced Rantie had been on loan at the Premier Soccer League champions from Swedish lower league side IFK Hassleholm.
They were hoping to sell him to Pirates at the end of his loan spell but club owner Irvin Khoza turned down the deal.
Now Rantie is looking to move to Malmo, one of the frontrunners in the Swedish championship race.
A loan deal for the next 18 months, which will take him up to the end of his existing contract with Hassleholm, is being proposed.
Malmo, the only Swedish team to have reached the European Cup final, are already more than halfway through their season, sharing top place in the standings.
Rantie had a chance to stay in South Africa after Mamelodi Sundowns made a firm offer but the striker was not keen to go the Brazilians because there are already too many forwards at the club and he had no guarantee of regular game time.
Rantie, who is from Parys in the Free State, formed an effective partnership with Benni McCarthy last season.
