MOROKA Swallows arrived in China yesterday without their chief striker Siyabonga Nomvethe, who is on national duty.

The Dube Birds will play in the 2012 Shanghai international tournament that starts tomorrow.

The four-club event is organised by the Shanghai Football Association.

It will feature Birds, Chinese clubs Shanghai Shenhua FC and Shanghai Shenxin, as well as the Argentine national youth team.

The Argentinians have replaced French side Evian, who withdrew from the tournament.

Shenhua are tipped to acquire Ivory Coast captain and striker Didier Drogba, who has announced he is leaving English Premier League club Chelsea.

Shenhua are also expected to unveil Sergio Batista, who guided Argentina to gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, as their new coach.

He will replace Frenchman Jean Tigana, who was sacked after poor results in China's Super League.

Swallows brand manager Siya Sangweni said it was a great honour for them to participate in this tournament, which will also help expose some of their youngsters to international football.

Swallows start their campaign against Shenxin tomorrow at Hong Kong Football Stadium.

The Dube Birds, who finished second behind Orlando Pirates in the Absa Premiership, take on crowd-pullers Shenhua on Saturday.

The final is on Sunday.

Swallows attacking midfielder David Mathebula said: "We are excited to play in this international tournament, it is a great break for us after the hectic PSL season. We hope to go back home with the title."
