THERE was plenty for new coach Stuart Baxter to enthuse over as he watched Kaizer Chiefs overcome Ajax Cape Town 2-0 in an Absa Premiership clash here last night but also evidence of work ahead.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane continued his remarkable recovery from a serious knee injury to score after just eight minutes with a simple placement of the ball pass Ajax goalkeeper Sander Westerveld at the end of a swift passing move.

Bernard Parker added the second an hour later to seal up the result.

With the goals, AmaKhosi registered a second successive win after their record run of defeats as the players sought to impress their new boss. Baxter will also have taken notes on the frailties in the team's make-up, which Ajax threatened to exploit at times in a game with too many turn overs and the occasional moments of indecision and mistakes.

Letsholonyane had marked his return last week with a man-of-the-match performance in the 2-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns and picked up where he left off with another classy showing last night. But he did not finish the match as he went off with tiredness at the break.

Chiefs, however, did not keep up the momentum and there were many periods in the game when Ajax dominated.

Siphiwe Tshabalala hit the upright twice and provided the second goal for Parker with a fine defence-splitting pass in the 67th minute. He should have got a penalty soon after but the referee Philip Tiyani erroneously adjudged he had dived and gave him an unjust yellow card instead. Ajax's had their best period just after half-time but were over-elaborate and heavy with their final touch.
