Unathi ready for big rematch

BRANCO Sports Production has added a women's title fight between Unathi Myekeni and Ghanaian Helen Joseph to the boxing fiesta scheduled in Brakpan on Saturday.

Myekeni, who is WBF women junior featherweight champion, will trade leather with Ghanaian foe Helen Joseph in a rematch at Carnival City.

Joseph is hoping the result will go her way this time around after Myekeni defeated her in East London on August 28 2009, which she described as a biased home town decision.

Myekeni is a close friend of the IFB welterweight champion and BSP stablemate of Noni Tenge, who has been giving her tips on how to also become a highly respected woman boxing star.

"Unathi is working hard to follow in the footsteps of Noni by winning a major world title and she could get a major break early next year," said BSP chief Branco Milenkovic.

"If Unathi's fighting ability is 50% of her brother Mhikiza, who I also promoted, then I can safely say she will be fighting for the IBF early next year," Milenkovic said.

Myekeni is unbeaten in eight fights, while the Ghanaian suffered her only defeat in 12 fights to the South African in 2009.

The big fight of the evening will be an all-Limpopo affair when Jeffrey Mathebula and Takalani Ndlovu meet in the eagerly antici-pated IBF junior featherweight title clash.

Milenkovic has also lined up exciting cruiserweight clash between knockout specialists Congo-born Ilunga "Junior" Maka-bu and Ghanaian Michael Gbenga.

Makabu, who has a big following in Gauteng, knocked out 10 victims with a single defeat, while Gbenga registered 11 stoppages in as many wins against five losses.

"We do not wrap our fighters in cotton wool and if Makabu cannot beat this guy then he is not what we think he is," said Milenkovic.

Makabu will be remembered as the man who knocked out cruiserweight super eight entrant Danie Venter in two rounds.

He holds the WBF "world title" but is being steered towards more recognisable world titles such as the IBF.
