Fans could soon be flocking to the aviary

MOROKA Swallows subscribe to the notion that charity begins at home as the club kick off a new campaign to mobilise and build their support base.

Swallows have decided to assist schools in Dobsonville with assorted playing equipment and some of the club's players will also conduct coaching clinics for the youngsters.

Swallows brand manager Siya Sangweni said: "Now that our home base is in Dobsonville, we have decided to start the campaign in the area.

"We are meeting the various schools to get their requirements so that we can help them with equipment.

"Dobsonville schools will be given soccer jerseys by the club. Some of them have been playing using various jerseys. We want them to look like organised teams.

"Our players will also visit the schools for motivational talks and coaching clinics. It is a golden opportunity to win the support of the learners and teachers to support Swallows.

"We want 60% of Dobsonville residents to support Swallows. That will also help us play in front of a big crowd when we are at home."

The hard-working Sangweni said their main target was the youth, to complement fans the likes of popular politician Panyaza Lesufi.

"It is a well-known fact that the majority of our supporters are senior citizens, but that is changing because a reasonable number of youth are coming on board.

"The success of the club this season has made things easier for us. We are seeing more young supporters saying they want to join Swallows.

"Having household names like Siyabonga Nomvethe, David Mathebula, Joseph Makhanya and many others has also helped attract more people to the Birds' aviary.

"The support we are getting from our sponsor Volkswagen is also helping us a great deal. We have also started a Swallows museum to record the history of the club at the stadium (Dobsonville)."
