Siyavutha confident they will extinguish Umlilo in 'battle of the fire'

WITBANK Spurs's marketing and communications manager Thabo "T-bose" Moroape is confident that his charges will prevail over Bay United, who they host in a National First Division fixture at Puma Rugby Stadium today.

The match, dubbed the "The battle of the fire", based on the two clubs' monickers - Siyavutha for Spurs and Umlilo for United - will start at 3.30pm.

Siyavutha are at the basement of the log with 11 points from 15 points, while Umlilo are 12th on the log with 15 points from the same number of outings. Moroape said the only way out of the relegation quagmire will be to defeat United to ensure that they reduce the margin between them and other lowly placed clubs.

"We cannot afford to be defeated by United because we are well aware that a defeat will put their NFD status at stake. We will pull all the strings to down United. It will be a matter of make or break, but victory is certain," Moroape said yesterday.

Siyavutha will pin their hopes on the likes of Ralph Matema, Thabang Rooi, Dumisani Tau and Patrick Mubayiwa. Umlilo general manager Nomalungelo Mooi said they had great respect for Spurs despite their position on the log.

"We have prepared well for the second round, especially this opening match against Spurs. The position we currently hold is not comfortable and we are aware of the damage that will be caused by a loss to Spurs. We were able to rope new players into the team and we are confident of victory," Mooi said.

United have capable players in Malesela Molekwa, Michael Mulaudzi, Million Mkhabela and Klaas Galane to steer them to victory.
