THE 2012 edition of the Nedbank Cup will see three all-PSL encounters in the opening round of the tournament.

Last night's draw for the first group of matches saw Maritzburg United pitted at home against Bloemfontein Celtic. Moroka Swallows will host BidVest Wits, while Ajax Cape Town travel to KwaZulu-Natal for a date with AmaZulu.

Although there are no mouth-watering clashes pitting giants together in this round, the competition has in the past see Davids taking on Goliaths successfully.

Teams like Mpumalanga Black Aces, University of Pretoria and last year's semi-finalists Baroka FC have caused major upsets before.

Minnows will once again be out to prove a point, starting with defending champions Orlando Pirates travelling to little-known Vodacom League side eThekwini Coastal FC from Amanzimtoti in KZN.

Kaizer Chiefs, who have the reputation of being knocked out of the competition by minnows, will again face unknown opponents Cape Town All Stars.

Big-spending Mamelodi Sundowns will also be happy with avoiding their Premier Soccer League opponents after they were drawn against amateurs Powerlines FC.

University of Pretoria, the 2009 finalists, will be looking to cause an early upset in the competition as the National First Division (NFD) side travel to Cape Town to take on Santos.

A Witbank derby has pitted 2008 finalists Mpumalanga Black Aces against Witbank Spurs.

Other minnows who are expected to cause upsets are North West Shining Stars, who took part in the 2007 and 2008 competitions.

They face Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Newly-promoted NFD side Sivutsa Stars take on Free State Stars, while Batau FC host SuperSport.

African Warriors were drawn against Jomo Cosmos, while Limpopo side The Dolphins face Platinum Stars. East London's Blackburn Rovers travel to Black Leopards in Limpopo.

The other two clashes see Bloemfontein side Roses United hosting Bay United, and United FC travelling to face the winner of a Safa play-off match between two amateur sides.

Dates and venues will be decided at a later stage.
