Palmgren vows to lift Usuthu

SWEDISH coach Roger Palmgren has pledged to take AmaZulu out of the Premiership basement after taking over from Manqoba Mngqithi as Usuthu coach.

Club director Graham O'Connor said the decision to fire Mngqithi was purely influenced by their poor start to the season.

Out of a possible 15 points from five matches played, the KwaZulu-Natal side managed only two points from the goalless draws against Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns. The last straw was a 1-0 defeat by Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

Palmgren said: "First I feel very sad for the coach (Mngqithi) because I've been part of AmaZulu, and I was one of the people who recommended him but we needed more points than we have."

"I still believe that even though we have not been getting good results we have a good mixture of young and experienced players who will help this club to succeed."

Palmgren's first match in charge will be away against Wits on Saturday.
