Medals drying up for SA

MAPUTO - After swimming's medal fest last week, South Africa's flood slowed to a trickle at the All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique, on Tuesday.

Javelin thrower Justine Robbeson landed gold with a throw of 55,57m and Gerlize de Klerk won silver with a throw of 52,27 - distances that would not make an impression internationally, but did keep South Africa's medal counter turning over.

The South African tennis women had another good day on court with convincing singles wins and a doubles win by Chanel Simmonds and Natasha Fourouclas.

South Africa's beach volleyball teams made it into yesterday's finals but the Proteas netball team completely lost the plot as they stumbled to a 47-51 defeat to Kenya.

Earlier, SA's men's Under-23 soccer team made it into Saturday's final after beating Senegal 6-5 in a penalty shootout.

They will play the winner of yesterday's second semifinal between Cameroon and Ghana.
