Safa signs up Mkhonza full-time

SOUTH African Football Association women's committee chairperson Nomsa Mahlangu has hailed the mother body for employing Joseph Mkhonza as Banyana Banyana head coach on a full-time basis.

Mkhonza has been the stand-in coach for the senior women's side since December when he was brought in to replace August Makalakalane.

The appointment of Mkhonza for the job was confirmed by Safa technical committee chairperson Fanyana Sibanyoni yesterday.

Sibanyoni also revealed that they had offered Solly Luvhengo a full-time contract to guide Majimbos, the national Under-17 side.

Mahlangu said yesterday: "Banyana Banyana have been doing well under him and we are now on the verge of qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics, the first time we have got this far in the history of women's soccer."

Sibanyoni said: "It was only fair to give the job to Mr Mkhonza after he impressed as stand-in coach." He said Luvhengo will spend quality time with Majimbos before they begin their 2013 African Junior Championships qualifiers in December. The finals are scheduled for Morocco.

"Solly has been given a two-year contract and we are happy to have him in charge for continuity's sake. He is passionate about development," Sibanyoni said.

"What I have decided, together with my committee, is that all the head coaches of our national teams should be employed on a full-time basis. Luvhengo will be assisted by Mandla Mazibuko."
