Mayor promises to pay up

CLUBS taking part in this year's Capricorn District Municipality Mayor's Soccer Cup will not have to wait long to be paid, unlike last year when they were paid months after the event, executive mayor Lawrence Mapoulo has promised

The promise was made on the eve of this year's final between Boyne Tigers and Machaba Pirates at Seshego Stadium.

"What happened last year was unacceptable and we cannot allow it to happen again. We have put all our systems in place to ensure that clubs are paid in time," Mapoulo said.

Tigers defeated Molemole Academy 2-1 to reach today's final, while Pirates beat University of Limpopo 5-4 on penalties. Players who have been selected from the 32 clubs that participated in the tournament to form Capricorn 11 will play against Absa Premiership sides Jomo Cosmos, Baroka FC and Super Eagles in a one-day, four-team tournament at Seshego Stadium on Sunday.

Safa Capricorn regional president Abel "The Lip" Rakoma said they were satisfied with the standard of football in the tournament.
